Jean-Jacques Urvoas ( French: Jean-Jacques Urvoas ; born September 19, 1959) - French politician and statesman, Minister of Justice (2016-2017).

Biography
Born on September 19, 1959, in 1977 joined the Socialist Party the day after the election of as mayor of Brest. In 1989, he became the head of the cabinet of the socialist mayor of Quimper , since 1998 he taught public law at the University of West Brittany . In 2000, he headed the Federation of Socialists in the Finister Department [2] .
In 2004, he was elected to the Brittany Regional Council and headed the socialist faction there.
In 2007, he was elected to the French National Assembly from the Department of Finister and voluntarily resigned from his Breton deputy mandate, as he is opposed to joining several parliamentary posts simultaneously [3] .
In 2009, he became the National Secretary of the Socialist Party, responsible for formulating security policies.
In 2012, he was re-elected as a deputy, having received the support of 69.81% of voters, and in the same year he headed the Commission of the National Assembly for Legislation [4] .
On January 27, 2016 he was appointed Minister of Justice in the second government of Manuel Waltz [5] .
He supported and actively promoted the implementation of the reform of the French penitentiary system - the , approved in 2014 [6] .
On December 6, 2016, after the resignation of Waltz, the government of Bernard Kaznev was formed , in which Jurvoas retained its former portfolio [7] .
On May 17, 2017, the government of Edouard Philippe was formed, in which the portfolio of the Minister of Justice went to Francois Bayre , and Jurvoas received no appointment. [8]
On June 18, 2017, in the second round of parliamentary elections, he lost to the candidate of the presidential party, “ Forward, Republic! [9] .
On December 13, 2017, the Canard enchaîné newspaper accused Jurvoas of transferring to Thierry Soler between the two rounds of the 2017 presidential election , when Jurvoas was the Minister of Justice, of information about a certain investigator who was interested in that [10] .
