Biography

Emil Gies was born in Frankfurt on April 26, 1872. In his hometown, he attended the Stedtel Institute in 1887–1889, where he was mentored by Heinrich Hasselhorst , and in the following years from 1889 to 1891, a painting class led by Frank Kirchbach (German: Frank Kirchbach ). He continued his studies in Paris in 1891-1893 at the private school of Luc Olivier Merson.
