Irem Karamet ( Turkish : İrem Karamete , born June 20, 1993 , Istanbul ) is a Turkish rapier fencer . Bronze medalist of the 2013 Mediterranean Games . Participant in the 2016 Summer Olympics [1] .

Biography and career
Irem was born into a family of athletes - her father Mehmet Karamete coached the German fencing team and his wife Neely, who spoke at the 1976 and 1984 Olympics. Irem has an older sister, Merve, who also fenced and played for the national team. She graduated from Özyeğin University in Istanbul [2] .
Irem began to engage in fencing at the age of 10 years [3] . She made her debut at international competitions in 2008. Since 2013, he regularly performs at the world fencing championships. In 2014, she became the champion of Turkey [4] . She won several prizes at the stages of the 2015 Fencing World Cup .
In 2016, at her debut Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Irem dropped out of the fight at the 1/16 final stage of 3 sections , losing to French foil fencer Isaore Tibus with a score of 6:15.
