History

Oil refining in Brod began in 1892 in an enterprise built by the Hungarian company Danitsa.

The modern plant was built in 1968 [1] .

In 1990–2008, the plant did not work, with the exception of individual installations [1] .

In early 2007, the plant, together with other assets (a plant for the production of motor oils in Modrica and a network of 79 petrol stations Petrol [2] ) was bought by Russian Zarubezhneft [3] . The deal amounted to 121 million euros, the agreements were signed with the Government of the Republika Srpska, as a result of the transaction the fuel industry of the Republika Srpska was privatized by a Russian company [2] . Together with its assets, Zarubezhneft obtained the right to develop oil fields in the Republika Srpska.

In 2008, after the reconstruction and modernization of the old oil refining line, the plant resumed production, the processing capacity was 1.2 million tons per year [4] . In 2011, the plant launched the second line, the processing capacity increased from 1.2 million tons to 3 million tons per year. In the reconstruction of the refinery in Brod in the period 2007—2014. invested over 250 million euros [2] .

It is planned to expand the plant with an increase in capacity to 4.2 million tons of oil per year and the construction of an oil pipeline from the refinery to the oil port of Omishal (sales are carried out only by road, which limits the market) [5] .
