Biography
Rafael was born into a family of lawyers. His father was Russian, and his mother was Argentinean. As a child, he mastered playing the piano and guitar. His idols were David Bowie , Iggy Pop , Bob Dylan , Led Zeppelin , Jimi Hendrix , Barbara as well as the legend of French rock music band Téléphone .
At 24, he released his first album, “Hôtel de l'univers” [1] . The first single from this album was the song " Cela Nous Aurait Suffi ", on which the video was shot. The debut record sold a modest circulation of 65,000 copies.
He often spoke at public appearances, including together with the French singer Vanessa Paradis .
The next successful step in Aroch’s career was the song “ Sur La Route ” of the second album “La réalité”. This composition was sung by a duet with the famous French singer and composer Jean-Louis Aubert . La réalité was released on April 22, 2003.
However, the most recognized and successful was the third Caravane album. Many talented musicians were invited to work on it. This new record became the best seller of 2005 in France - the circulation amounted to more than a million copies, from the French national trade union of producers of phonograms , it was marked with a “diamond disk”. At the award ceremony for the prestigious Victoires de la musique, Rafael won three major musical nominations: “Best Singer”, “Best Album” and “Song of the Year” - “Caravane”. In support of the album, a large concert tour was held in France, Belgium and Switzerland, the apotheosis of which was three sold-out performances in the Paris hall “ Le Zenith ”.
In September 2006, the live album " Résistance à la nuit " was released. It consisted of recordings of two concerts: from the “standard”, the electric performance at Le Zenith, as well as the acoustic performance at Théâtre Du Châtelet. “Résistance à la nuit” was released both on two CDs and on DVD.
The double CD is called “La Nuit Resistance,” which contains the best song on the previous Caravan album, and some of the most successful singles.
In early 2007, Aroch toured with several other French musicians, including Jean-Louis Aubert, Cali , Alan Bashung , Daniel Dar and Richard Colinka . In total, five concerts took place: one in Losen, two in Brussels and two in Paris.
In the period from November 2009 to April 2010, Rafael was preparing a new album, which he saw as "a return to the blues, rock, as well as more mysterious moods." In the studio, he was assisted by Portishead guitarist Adrian Utley , Albin, Benjamin Lebo (Film group), Adrian Bellew and Sly Johnson (Beat Box).
Finally, on September 27, 2010, Pacific 231 is released. According to many music observers and critics, this disc became Raphael's best album.
