Counter

Oklahoma counter

A counter is a piece of shop equipment that is closed in front (on the side of the customers) of the cabinet, usually located along the wall of the store with a passage for sellers behind. Sometimes the front of the counter is glazed, giving it also the functions of a display case .

A stable phrase has been formed from the counter to indicate sellers - “counter worker”.

In modern stores, counters are used to place cash registers and wrap goods purchased and are custom-built double-height cupboards - the outer part has a height of at least 105 cm and the inside has a standard height (91 cm). On the outside, low and shallow shelves are often placed where customers can place their bags. The increased height serves to protect the drawers and the cash register, but to serve the disabled, part of the outside of the counter is also made of a reduced height [1] .
