Investigative Journalist

According to Arbana Jarrah, the development of democracy is impossible without the right of the press to investigate socially important problems [3] . So she in her work touched on a wide range of issues: in 2006, Jarra examined government expense reports and financial fraud [4] ; in 2007 studied the causes of inflation and food shortages [5] ; in 2010, checked the use of the assets of the state-owned telecommunications company Telekomi i Kosovës. She also focused on the relationship between business and politics. Jarra was involved in the lawsuit in 2012, when she prepared a report on corruption in the government, the relationship of local business with politicians [6] . She was acquitted by a court that noted that she was following the Kosovo Code of Ethics for the Print Media [7] .

For 18 months, starting in 2012, Jarra investigated the growth of religious activity after the fall of the socialist regime in the former Yugoslavia [8] . She reported on religious extremism and its impact on society. Jarra discovered Kosovo’s Islamic extremist ties to terrorist organizations. Her disclosure of their operational and financial ties helped the government deal with this problem, but Jarra herself was faced with life threats against herself and public attacks on her reputation. She reported them to the police, but this did not bring the proper result [9] .

On May 13, 2017, Arbana Jarrah was attacked, after which she was taken to hospital. Earlier it was reported about the journalist’s intention to go to the parliamentary elections in June of the same year from the Democratic Party of Kosovo [10] .

In 2013, she was awarded the KOHA Group's Rexhai Surroi Prize for articles on extremism and the INPO Ferizaj Stirring Up Debate Prize [12] [13] for creating a public discourse on religious extremism.
