Biography

Born November 3, 1846 in Wurzburg , now the land of Bavaria , Germany (then the Austrian Empire ).

He graduated from the University of Wurzburg .

In 1868 he began preparatory legal practice in a local court. Three years later, Hiller drew up a practical exam, after which he worked as a lawyer and judge.

Engaged in legal practice, does not leave theoretical classes in order to obtain a degree.

He achieved his goal in 1871 when he defended his doctoral dissertation at the University of Heidelberg .

But even after this, until the end of 1872 he continued to work on the topic “Legality ( legitimacy ) of the government regarding the disappearance of resistance” and held the position of private assistant professor in the field of jurisprudence .

In September 1875, he was admitted to the newly founded University of Chernivtsi as a professor of Austrian criminal law .

In 1880, he received the title of Ordinary , three times was elected dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Chernivtsi (during 1882-1883, 1887-1888 and 1895-1896).

He was elected rector of the Chernivtsi University for the period 1885 - 1886 .

In 1885, he was awarded the Austrian professional title “Regierungsrat”.

For his deep knowledge of the criminal law and legislation of Austria , the University of Graz in 1898 appointed him its chairman.

Karl Hiller, while on duty, died in Graz (now Austria ; then the Austro-Hungarian Empire ) in his 58th year of life.
