It was named after the military topographer A. I. Sosunov from the expedition of L. A. Bolshev , who shot the mainland coast of the Sea of Japan in 1874 between the hall. De-Kastri (Chikhacheva) and Plastun.
On the cape a year-round lighthouse of the same name operates. The cape is a ledge of a basalt plateau, gradually descending to the east. Nearby, on a rocky shallow, lies the skeleton of a ship. At the foot of the cape, at the mouth of the Svetlaya River, there are berths of the Svetlaya port.
