Santa Croce in Jerusalemme titular church - The titular church was created around 600 by Pope Gregory the Great to replace the San Nicomede in Via Nomentana church, which was abolished. According to the catalog of Peter Mullio, compiled during the pontificate of Pope Alexander III , the title was attached to the Basilica of St. Lawrence outside the city wall and its priests , who, in turn, served Mass there. The name still insists that the basilica was founded by Empress Elena , the mother of Constantine the Great .
