Machine builder (Izhevsk region)

The original name of the district is Engineering . It has been used since 1979 and comes from the name of the Town of Mechanical Engineers - a village located in the central part of the district. The village got its name due to the fact that houses were built for workers of the Izhevsk Machine-Building Plant ^[4] .

In 1909, the first narrow-gauge railway (Postolskaya UZhD) was laid in the territory of the future district in Udmurtia. Initially, it was used to deliver wood and charcoal to the Izhevsk Plant ^[5] .

Residential development in the north of the Machine Builder (the area of ​​the sawmill) began to develop in the 30s of the XX century. It was during this period that most of the streets of the district got their names. Private development spread from east to west.

The subsidiary farm Zhivskhoz marked the beginning of the development of the southern part of the Machine Builder. Active construction in the central part of the district began in the 50s, when the first two-story wooden houses for workers of Izhmash appeared here. The construction of barracks was gradually replaced by the construction of brick 2- and 3-storey houses in the western part of the village. Subsequently, in the Town of Mechanical Engineers began to build and 5-storey houses. In 1960, school number 51 was opened in the new microdistrict ^[6] .

In 1972, the subsidiary farm Zhivskhoz became part of the new state farm “Mashinostroitel”.

In 1979, as part of the Leninsky district of Izhevsk, the Engineering Residential District was formed ^[7] .

In November 1986, the first trolleybuses went to the Machine-Building District - route No. 9 started working. At about the same time (the 80s), a section of the narrow gauge railway along Postolskaya Street from Lesozavod to Zarechnoye Highway was dismantled ^[8] . In 1997, traffic on the remaining part of the Postolskaya URD stopped. During the year, railways in the district were completely dismantled.

There are no large enterprises in the district. Economic activity is carried out by small trading and manufacturing companies, concentrated mainly in the production and communal zone of the Zhivsovkhoz microdistrict, as well as in the territory of the former sawmill.

Trade in the Engineering is underdeveloped. Most stores specialize mainly in the sale of consumer goods. There are 6 supermarkets of local and federal chains ( Magnit , Izhtreyding, Pyaterochka ).

There are no large shopping complexes in the district. As of 2017, there is only one small shopping center - Mashinostroitel. Nevertheless, in 2014, the construction of the large shopping and entertainment center Matrix, which is expected to become the largest in Izhevsk, began on the border with the Stroitel district ^[9] .

Education

There are 2 schools in the district: school No. 51 and Choreographic Lyceum No. 95 (former school No. 37). Until 2009, the elementary school No. 3 also operated in the town of Mashinostroiteley.

There are 4 preschool institutions in the residential area: kindergartens No. 41, 82, 144, 219.

There are no higher educational institutions in the Engineering.

Health

Medical care for the population of the district is provided by the Polyclinic of City Hospital No. 4 located in the Town of Machine Builders.

In addition to the clinic, the Republican narcological dispensary and the Malyshok children's sanatorium are also located in the district.

Sport

The City Velodrome is located in the Machine Builder, at which the republican sports school for cycling functions.

Also in the territory of the residential area there are 3 municipal sports schools:

• Children's Marine Center "Dolphin"

Culture, social services

The most important streets of the district: Shaberdinsky tract, Baranova, Shevchenko, Krylova, Zelenaya and Zhivsovkhoznaya streets.

Public Transport

The population of the district is served by trolleybuses, buses and minibuses. The movement of trolleybuses is organized along Baranova Street and the town of Mashinostroiteley. There are routes number 9 and 10.

Buses and minibuses ply along the town of Mashinostroiteley, Zhivsovkhoznaya street, Baranov, Shevchenko, Krylov and Shaberdinsky tract. Bus routes No. 8, 21, 34, as well as minibuses No. 45, 53, 353, 363, 366, pass through the residential area.

Rail Transport

Since the beginning of the XXI century, railway transport has been passing only to the north-east of the Machine Builder along the Izhevsk-Balezino diesel line . The closest stopping point to it is the Zavodskaya station .

Until 1998, the Postolsky narrow gauge railway connecting Izhevsk with Poivay station on the border of the Zavyalovsky and Uvinsky districts of Udmurtia passed through a residential area. Through Mashinostroitel the road went along Postolskaya street. There was both freight and passenger traffic ^[5] . Within the boundaries of the district, on a narrow gauge railway, there were 2 stations: Izhevsk and Vyemka. Station station Izhevsk was located in a two-story building near the intersection of Baranov and Shevchenko streets at the address of the village. Mechanical Engineers, 1A. After the station was closed, the building was used as a residential building ^[10] , demolished in 2013.
