Biography
Since 1831 he studied at Uppsala University . Master from 1839. From 1840 to 1850 - Associate Professor of Political Science, Alma Mater .
Then he lectured on history and statistics. In 1856, Mr .. appointed professor of history at the University of Lund, since 1862 - professor in Uppsala. In 18680, 1869 was the rector of Uppsala University .
Since 1858 - Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Literature . In 1864 he was admitted to the Swedish Academy , and in 1870 the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences .
In 1864 he was awarded the Swedish Royal Medal of Litteris et Artibus for his great contribution to the development of science, literature and art of Sweden. Since 1879 - Dr. honoris causa of the University of Copenhagen .
Scientific activity
In addition to history, he was engaged in historical statistics.
In 1849-1851 his essay on the reduction in Sweden during the reign of Karl X Gustav and Karl XI was published, in 1856 - “On the responsibility of the state council”, in 1857 - “On historical studies in Swedish universities”, in 1861 - “ Gustav I and his time ", in 1862 -" The development of the character of Gustav II Adolf ", in 1866 -" Excerpts from the history of Norway ", in 1868-1869. He also wrote biographies of prominent Swedish figures - Piper , Sparre , members of the Swedish Academy and the Academy of Sciences, and many others. After his death, his autobiographical notes (1884-1890) were published.
He was considered an ethics specialist who defended Protestantism and humanistic ideals.
He was buried in the Uppsala Old Cemetery .
