Biography

Xavier Beauvois was born March 20, 1967 in Oschel (department of the Pas-de-Calais , France). From childhood he was fond of the history of cinema and even participated in the youth conference in Calais . Then he decided to enter the IDHEC film school, but failed.

He began his cinematic career as assistant director Manuel de Oliveira . In 1986, he shot his first short film. Then Andre Teschine helped on the set, and in 1991 he shot the first full-length film " North ", where he himself played one of the main roles. The tape received two nominations for the Cesar Award. After that, Beauvois begins to be invited as an actor, and the director himself shoots very rarely, but regularly and with high quality.

The 1995 film “ Don’t forget that you will die soon ” brought the director the jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival [3] and the Jean Vigo Prize . The main roles in the film were played by Beauvois and Chiara Mastroianni . For the film “ Young Lieutenant ”, the leading woman Natalie Bai received the Cesar Award in the nomination for Best Actress.

In 2010, Xavier Bovois put on the film “ People and Gods ”, the plot of which is based on a real story that happened in Algeria, where the French ministers of the monastic order of the Cistercians lived for some time in complete harmony with the local Muslim population, providing assistance and support. The film was awarded the Grand Prix of the Jury and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Cannes Film Festival [4] and a number of other prestigious nominations and awards.

The latest directorial work by Xavier Bovois “The Price of Glory ” was selected to participate in the main competition program of the 71st Venice Film Festival [5] [6] .
