Built in 1266, it is the oldest Gothic building in Bosnia and Herzegovina . Near the church was a Dominican monastery.
In 1592, the church was converted by the Turks into a mosque. The Gothic bell tower was used as a minaret until 1863, when the old tower was demolished and replaced with a new minaret.
After the Austro-Hungarian occupation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Franciscans built a new Catholic church in Bihac, as they could not agree with the new authorities on the return of the church.
The building was damaged during the Second World War: the roof and wooden elements of the interior burned down, the minaret was damaged.
In 2003, the mosque was included in the list of national monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
