Indoor Athletics European Championship 2017 - Long Jump (Women)

Women's long jump competition at the European Indoor Track and Field Athletics Championships in Belgrade took place on March 4-5, 2017 at the Kombank Arena .

The current winter European champion in the long jump was Ivan Španović from Serbia .

The competition was attended by the only Russian athlete allowed to participate in the European Indoor Championships 2017 - Daria Klishina . She acted as a neutral athlete [1] , taking fourth place in the final with the best result of the season 6.84 m.

Qualification: qualification standard 6.60 m (Q) or holders of 8 best results (q) [2] .
Competitions were held in one qualification group on March 4, 2017. 17 participants entered the sector. Ivan Shpanovich updated her best result of the season in the world by jumping for 7 meters for the first time of the year - 7.03 m. This jump was the farthest in the history of qualifications at the European Indoor Championships (the previous record was 6.80 m).

Final

The main competitions in women's long jump were held on March 5, 2017. The champion title was defended by Ivan Shpanovich , who won the only medal for the owners of the championship. Her winning result, 7.24 m, became the country's new record, the best result of the season in the world, the furthest leap in the world in the 21st century and the seventh in history. Only two athletes, Heike Drexler and Galina Chistyakova, have a personal indoor record. The last time women jumped further in 1989 was when Chistyakova set the USSR record (7.30 m).

The silver medal was won by Lorraine Eugene , who improved the record of Great Britain - 6.97 m [3] .
