Count Ferenc Lipot Nadashdi-Fogarashföld ( Hungarian Nadasdy-Fogarasföld Ferenc Lipót ), better known as Franz Leopold von Nadaddy ( German: Franz Leopold von Nádasdy ; September 30, 1708 , Radkersburg - March 22, - Field Marshal of the Austrian Army, Ban of Croatia (1756-1783; Croat. Franjo Leopold Nádasdy ).

Came from an old Hungarian noble family . Born in the family of Count Ferenc Nadashdi (d. 1717) and his 3rd wife, Rosalia Rebecca (1673-1717), nee Baroness von Schrattenbach zu Heggenberg und Osterwitz ( von Schrattenbach zu Heggenberg und Osterwitz ). Grandson of Count (1622–1671).

Army Service

In 1727, Nadashdi entered the Chaki Hussar Regiment [ specify ] . In 1734, he became colonel of the Hussar regiment of Chungenberg . At the beginning of the war for the Austrian inheritance , in 1741 , Nadashdi bought the hussar regiment of Chaki into the property. In November 1741, he recaptured the city of Neuhaus from the Franco-Bavarian forces. While the Austrian army besieged Prague , Nadashdi at the head of the cavalry corps crossed the French border and occupied the city of Neuburg . In 1743, Nadashdi fought in Bavaria, where he captured Wassenburg and Friedberg . In March, after the defeat of Count Carl von Minucci at Braunau, he occupied Otting , Burghausen , Muhldorf .

In July 1744, Nadashdi took part in crossing the Rhine , leading the Austrian avant-garde and won under Ageno and Alsass-Zabern . In the same year he was promoted to major general .

On February 15, 1745 he married Maria Maximilian to Countess Rottal . In the campaign of that year, he fought in Upper Silesia . September 30, he participated in the battle of Zoor , where he captured the Prussian army treasury. In the same year he was promoted to the rank of cavalry general and was appointed commandant of the Ofen citadel.

In 1746, Nadashdi was transferred to the Italian theater of operations. March 17, he attacked the fortified position of the enemy at Guastalla. On June 16, he participated in the victorious . August 12 - fought in the unresolved battle of Rottofredo , and also witnessed the fighting at Novi and at Genoa .

In 1757, Nadashdi formed new troops on the Lower Danube to join with them the army of Field Marshal Down , advancing against the Prussians near Prague. On June 18, at the battle of Colin , Nadashdi led a decisive flank attack that brought victory to the Austrian army. After this victory, he received the Grand Cross of the Order of Maria Theresa . On August 13, Nadashdi participated in the battle of Ladesgut , on September 7, he carried out a decisive attack against a separate Prussian corps at Mois . Finally, on November 13, after a 16-day siege, Schweidnitz captured this extremely important fortress. On December 5, at the battle of Leyten, Nadashdi commanded the Austrian cavalry on the left flank. As a result of prejudiced judgments about his command in this battle devastating for the Austrians, his reputation was badly damaged and later on during this war he never succeeded in independent command.

In 1758, Nadashdi returned to Croatia and devoted his energy to reorganizing border infantry regiments.

On February 15, 1759, Nadashdi married again: this time to Baroness von Rabatinski, Maria Suzanne.

In 1778, Franz Leopold, on the eve of a new war with Prussia, was appointed army commander in Galicia . The world was signed quickly, Nadashdi resigned at the age of 70.
