Siberian leg-foot

Siberian leggroom is one of the oldest Russian breeds of chickens . Her first documentary mention is found in the book of S. N. Bement "Companion of the American Poultry Breeder." It describes the case when, in 1842, an old Russian breed of hens, the Siberian leg-footed, was brought from Moscow by Boston Dr. E. White. Already at that time - this breed was considered an "ancient, primordially Russian breed." The first references to breeds such as the Sultanka or Pavlovskaya date back much later, which is an indirect confirmation that the Siberian leg-foot should nevertheless be considered the founder of this group of hens.

The last time before the revolution, the mention of this breed is found in the 1905 standard, it also took part in the 1884 exhibition of the Moscow Society of Poultry Breeders. For more than a hundred years, the bird was considered completely extinct. But in 2009, an expedition was undertaken to the village of Pavlovo on the Oka River in order to study the local chicken population, and quite by accident the last two hens of the Siberian leg-foot breed were discovered there, the cock had already died by then. One of the members of the expedition, E. A. Firer, arranged for the delivery of the Pavlovsky rooster and immediately began work on the restoration of the breed. To date, restoration work continues. In 2016, a club was organized for fans of the Siberian leg mill, on which E. A. Firer appointed Alexander Korolyov as club chairman.
