The album version of the song is a hybrid of two separate songs created during the sessions for the album: “A New Life is Born” (written by Freddie Mercury ) and actually “Breakthru” (written by Roger Taylor ). “A New Life is Born” is a slow-moving ballad that begins with the a capella choral introduction and, in the original version, ends with partially improvised vocals and piano. For the album version of “Breakthru”, a small part in the style of the original demo was added, released in the album version after the words “ A new life is born ... ”. The recorded part ends with an exclamation of “ Now! "( Russian Now! ), After which the Breakthru itself begins, which is faster and more energetic compared to A New Life is Born.
The initial Breakthru instrumental demo is heavier and faster than the final version [1] .
The album version lasts 4 minutes 8 seconds. An extended remix was released on 12 " and CD singles, starting not with" A New Life is Born ", but with repetitions using the echo effects of the word" Breakthru "with gradually increasing severity of drums. At 0:27 the word" Now! "Sounds and the song itself begins. This remix also features heavier, hard rock drums, a clearer guitar playing, echo effects and alternative endings using electric guitars (in the landscape version the song ends with a silent repetition of the word “ Breakthru ”).
On some promo CDs, two shortened versions of the album’s mix of songs were released: Now Edit, starting with “ Now! "And Almost Now Edit, which goes on to cry" Now! "Immediately after the first line of" A New Life is Born ".
To shoot the video clip for the song, the GWR 2884 Class locomotive with an open platform was rented. The train was marked "Miracle Express." Musicians play while standing on an open platform, while Freddy sings and moves to the rhythm of the music. All musicians are insured against bodily harm in the amount of more than 2 million pounds. The scene in which the train breaks through the wall did not please the members of the group, as it is clearly visible that the wall is made of polystyrene foam and begins to collapse even before contact with the train. The fashion model Deborah Leng, girlfriend of Roger Taylor, took part in the filming.
