Etymology

According to the most recognized version, the name of the village and the Bzogu river comes from the Ubykh “bzygu”, from the bza - the river, and gu , which in Adyghe-Abkhaz languages means - middle or middle. Perhaps the root of the name is gy - drying out. Thus, the name Bzogu can be translated as “middle river” or “drying river” [2] .

According to another version, the name of the toponym contains the Ubykh word “bzkhgu”, which means “pasture” (there was a high meadow at the mouth of the river). Or perhaps a distorted Adyghe “bzuse”, which means “narrow” (possibly associated with the narrow canyon of the Bzogu river) [3] .

History

Dolmen in the Bzogu River Valley

The first settlements in the Bzogu river valley were founded in ancient times, as evidenced by the material monuments preserved here, in particular, ancient megalithic structures - dolmens .

Until the end of the Caucasian War, the settlements of the indigenous inhabitants (mainly Shapsugs and Ubykhs ) and their agricultural lands (arable lands, gardens) were located on both banks of the Bzogu River, in its lower and middle reaches. However, after the war ended in 1864, the local population was evicted as a result of Muhajirism.

According to the expedition of the Ministry of Agriculture, which investigated this territory in 1896, the ruins of mountain settlements along the Bzogu River were part of the area named in the report Solokh-aul.

The modern village of Bzogu has gradually begun to populate since 1917. In the list of populated areas of the Sochi district of the Black Sea province for 1917, the village of Bzogu is listed as "the tract (meadow) of Bzogo".

Since 1922, the village was listed as part of the Sochi region (in 1934 it was renamed Adler) of the Black Sea District. In 1930 there were already 37 yards.

In 1934 it was transferred to the subordination of Solokha-Aulsky village council of Adler district [4] .

From December 26, 1962 to January 12, 1965, the village of Bzogu in connection with the abolition of the Lazarevsky district was listed as part of the Tuapse district [5] .

In 1965, it was transferred to the Solokh-Aul rural district of the Lazarevsky district of the resort city of Sochi .

In the last years of the Soviet regime, the population of the village was greatly reduced due to the outflow of the population.
