Faschenko, Vasily Vasilievich

Born January 5, 1929 in the village. Kateshchino, Tomakovsky District, Dnipropetrovsk Region in the family of the farmer. In 1949 he graduated from high school in with. Kremenny Voroshilovgrad (now Lugansk ) region.

In 1954, he graduated from the Ukrainian department of the philological faculty of the I.U.

In 1958 he defended his thesis on the topic: "Novels of O. Gonchar."

In 1957 - 1963 he served as editor of the university newspaper "For Science Frames".

From 1962 to 1968 - Dean of the General Science Faculty, Vice-Rector for correspondence and evening education ( 1968 - 1970 ).

In 1970 he defended his doctoral dissertation - “Genre-style problems and Ukrainian radio novelties”. After defending his dissertation, the scientist worked as a senior lecturer at the Department of Ukrainian Literature, an assistant professor of the same department. Since 1972 - professor , head of the department of Soviet literature and literature of the peoples of the USSR created by him (since 1989 - department of literature of the 20th century). He worked as vice-rector for scientific work (1970-1976). He was the editor-in-chief of the scientific interdepartmental collection "Questions of Literature of the Peoples of the USSR" (1975-1993).

He died on June 24, 1999 in Odessa .

A purposeful scientific search provided V.V. Fashchenko a place among the most respected researchers of the Ukrainian novel. The monographs “Novels and Novelties” ( 1968 ) and “From the Studio about Novelty” (1971) issued to scientists became a milestone in clarifying the essential issues of the theory of novels in Ukraine , in studying the individual style of leading Ukrainian novelists, in particular Yu. Yanovsky, A. Dovzhenko, Ostap Cherries, G. Kosynski, O. Gonchar.

Studying the history of fiction, he found an increased interest in the development of the contemporary literary process. For active participation in the literary process, Faschenko the critic was admitted to the Union of Writers of Ukraine ( 1966 ), was elected a delegate to a number of writers' congresses.

During 70-90 years. (XX century.) In the center of scientific interests of V.V. Faschenko was the poetics of character creation in fiction. Under the editorship of the scientist, a collective work entitled “The Problem of Character in Radical Bagatonation Literature” (1977) was published. The main results of many years of research have been reflected in his monographs, “The New Word and the Dialectic of Honors” (1977), “In the Glibins of the Human Butt: Studies on the Psychology of Literature” (1981), “Characters and Situations” (1982).

Faschenko is one of the authors and co-editor of a textbook for students of philological faculties of universities and pedagogical institutes "Ukrainian Radyansk Literature" (1979).

The scientific, pedagogical, organizational and creative activity of V. V. Faschenko was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor, and the medal For Valiant Labor . His articles were awarded the Republican Prize in the field of literary criticism (now the A. Beletsky Prize) (1979). Over the past two works, he was awarded the title of Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine named after T. G. Shevchenko ( 1985 ).
