Career

Urbano Caldeira was born in Florianopolis . From there he moved to Sao Paulo . Caldeira began playing football at the Germania club. And then he moved to “ AA das Palmeiras ” [5] . Soon, Caldeira, who worked as a customs officer [3] , was transferred to work in Santos [2] . There, the football player began to play for the local team of the same name and immediately became the first secretary of the club’s Executive Council [4] . There, the football player made his debut on May 13, 1913 in a match with San Vicenti [4] and played until 1918, playing the roles of alternately goalkeeper and defender, in which he was even able to score 2 goals [3] in 43 matches [4] . In the period from 1913 to 1915, the player served as the team's playing coach. In 1916, Urbano became the sports director of Santos [4] , then the club was able to acquire land in Vila Belmiro and began to build a stadium there. Caldeira took an active part in this process, coordinating all stages of construction, up to the selection of grass varieties for the lawn field [5] . After completing his work as a coach, he remained in the club as a member of the council and worked as vice president [5] . Urbano returned to the team in 1921 as a coach and held this position until his death in 1932 [2] from pneumonia [3] . The coach died the day after the first game of “Santos” in professional football, where the club lost to “ Sao Paulo ” with a score of 1: 5 [6] .
