Bukovchan, Ivan

Bukovchan Ivan (September 15, 1921, Banska Bistrita - May 24, 1975, Bratislava ) is a Slovak playwright. Honored Writer of Czechoslovakia (1975), Laureate of the State Prize of the Slovak Socialist Republic, screenwriter, journalist, actor, doctor of law. He was awarded the medal "For Outstanding Work". The most famous play: “Before the Rooster Crows”

Biography

Studied in Presov and Prague. He participated in the Slovak National Uprising against the Wehrmacht in 1944. In (1946, or 1944) he graduated from the Law Faculty of Bratislava University. Since 1945, for many years, he worked as a correspondent for Bratislava newspapers, in particular, Narodnaya Obroda (National Revival). Having visited Switzerland, Austria and Spain (with the help of Andorran smugglers) he wrote a book of reporting “Unsure World” (1948). In 1949 he published the novel “Winter's Tale”. He returned to the reporting genre in 1963 in the book Cuba Without a Beard.

He is the author of many screenplays:

  “Devil's wall”, “Skating rink”, “Fight will end tomorrow”, “Young hearts”, “Native land”, “Courageous thief”, “The last witch”, “Happiness will come on Sunday”, “Rocks and people”, “Song about the blue dove ”,“ Coward ”,“ Bells for the barefoot ”,“ Tango for the bear ”,“ The contract with the devil ”,“ Copper tower ”,“ Eagle feather ”,“ The man on the bridge ”,“ The day that does not die ” , “The Lost Valley” 

and plays:

  “Raw Tree” (1954), “The Devil’s Bride” (1957), “Search in the Clouds” (1960), “Ostrich Party” (1967), “ Before the Rooster Crowns ” (1969), “Drive the Wolf” (1970) , “A noose for two, or the Home gallows” (1970), “Almost a divine mistake” (1971), “The first day of the carnival” (1972), “Luigi’s heart, or Execution with a blunt sword” (1973), “Snow over the Cedar” , "Fata Morgana".

He died on May 24, 1975. in Bratislava .
