The founder-chairman of the ADP is the deputy of the National Assembly of Armenia , previously the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Armenia, Aram Gasparovich Sargsyan . Some of the members, soon after the founding of the ADP, reestablished the Communist Party of Armenia and transferred there.
The ideology of the Democratic Party is based on the theory of democratic socialism. The party is in favor of preserving democratic, national values and establishing social justice.
