Christian Mölsted ( Dates Christian Mølsted ; October 15, 1862, Draguerre - May 10, 1930, ibid.) Is a Danish marine painter, best known for his paintings depicting the battle in Köge Bay (1710) and the battle of Helmgoland (1864) [2 ] .

Born into a fisherman's family. With the support of relatives, in 1879 he graduated from a technical boarding school in Copenhagen . In the summer of the same year, he traveled to England, Madeira and St. Petersburg on the frigate "Jutland", in October 1880 he entered the Danish Royal Academy of Fine Arts , where many famous Danish artists of that time were his teachers [3] . During his studies, he took study trips to Paris (1880) and London (1882), where he studied contemporary art. In January 1885 he graduated from the Academy with a diploma in painting.
Mölsted's first works were presented to the public in December 1884, then he regularly participated in spring exhibitions. Most known as a marine painter, the subjects of his paintings most often became naval battles involving the Danish fleet off the coast of Jutland or Copenhagen. He was known for his scrupulous approach to even minor historical details; Otto Dorge, a local historian from Draeger, helped him in his work on collecting historical information about the battles and technical aspects of ships. In the last years of his life he also wrote genre paintings. In October 1891 he married, had three daughters in marriage. From 1904 until the end of his life he headed the National Society of Art. He died in his hometown, where he lived all his life after completing his studies, buried in a local cemetery [4] [5] . Since 1974, a museum has been organized in his art workshop [6] .
