Geography
The area is located in the southwest of the region. The relief is flat. The climate is sharply continental. The average January temperature is −17.6 ° C, July + 21 ° C. The annual amount of precipitation is 245 mm.

km².
On the territory of the district there are many fresh and bitterly salty lakes, the largest of them is Raspberry Lake . Soils - chestnut with numerous salt licks, sandy in the forest. The northern part of the district is the steppe, along the southern is a ribbon forest. Pine, birch, aspen, poplar grow; grasses - feather grass, wormwood. Inhabit: of animals - fox, hare, elk, roe deer, squirrel, ground squirrel, corsac, badger, jerboa; from birds - black grouse, hazel grouse; from fish - crucian carp, tench, carp, perch.

Economics
The main direction of the economy is agriculture. Grain production has been developed (elevator of the PAVA company), meat and dairy cattle breeding, sheep breeding. On the territory of the district are the Mikhailovsky Chemical Reagents Plant, a leshoz, and a printing house.
Transport
On the territory of the district there are motorways:
- Zmeinogorsk - Mikhailovsky - Karasuk ,
- Mikhailovskoye - Uglovskoye - Rubtsovsk .
And also a section of the West Siberian Railway .
Fire September 8, 2010
September 8, 2010 in the Mikhailovsky district from the territory of Kazakhstan came a horse forest fire. The spread of fire was facilitated by an abnormally high temperature (about 35 degrees Celsius) for this time of the year, combined with a hurricane wind (30 m / s) and a long (no more than one and a half months) lack of precipitation. The fire spread to the settlements of Nikolaevka and Bastan . In Nikolaevka 306 houses burned down, and in Bastan 6.
