History
In the middle of the XIX century, in the village of Port Katon, Azov District, Rostov Region, the Church of the Equal-to-the-Apostles Tsars Konstantin and Elena was built. Over time, the church became dilapidated and in exchange at the beginning of the 20th century a stone church of the Intercession was built with a bell tower about 70 meters high.
In 1938, the Intercession Church in the village of Port Caton, Azov District, was closed.
During the Great Patriotic War , during the German occupation, in 1942 the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary was reopened.
After the war, in November 1945, the village was transferred to believers for the arrangement of a house of worship? built in 1913? church gatehouse building. Before the war, the rural post office worked in the gatehouse. At the beginning of 1962, a prayer house near the Pokrovskaya community in the village of Port Caton was selected. In February 1962, the decision on the seizure was approved by the Rostov Oblast Executive Committee. In March 1962, the regional executive committee made the final decision on the liquidation of the Pokrovsky house of worship.
The parish church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin was again registered in the village of Port Caton in 1995, and after being deregistered in 2004, it was re-registered in 2006.
Currently, the temple occupies a building that previously belonged to the fishery "Socialist Way". This building was handed over to the parish free of charge, and a land plot was also provided for the construction of a new church to the Pokrovsky parish in the village of Port Caton.
