Biography

She studied at the New Vienna Conservatory with Eric Schmedes, then in Berlin with Jacques Stückhold. In 1923, she made her debut as a chorus girl at the Vienna National Opera , but was fired.

The debut as an viola took place in 1926 at the Vienna Folk Opera as Adriano in Wagner ’s opera Rienzi . After engagement in the theaters of Augsburg and Elberfeld in 1929 he entered the city theater Chemnitz as a soprano , from 1931 to 1934 he sang at the Berlin State Opera .

At the Vienna State Opera she first performed in the party of Brünnhilde in the Valkyrie in 1933, after which she remained in the troupe until 1955. After the conductor and director Karl Böhm was dismissed from the theater, Annie Konechna suffered a stroke , from which she could not recover.

Along with her younger sister Hilda Konechna, Annie was considered one of the best singers of the Vienna Opera. Since 1935, she participated in the Salzburg Festival , visited on tour all the main stages of Europe, the USA and South America. From 1934 to 1954 she worked at the Vienna Higher School of Music and Performing Arts . The basis of Annie Konechna’s repertoire was the dramatic soprano parts in the works of Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss , which she performed with scale and expression. Among the notable works are the parts of Isolde ( Tristan and Isolda , the best performance is at the Salzburg Festival in 1936 [3] ), Brünnhilde in The Ring of the Nibelung , Venus in Tannhäuser , Kundri in Parsifal , the title part in Electra " [3] . In addition, she sang parts in the operas Fidelio by Beethoven , Don Carlos Verdi , Carmen Bizet , Boris Godunov Mussorgsky [3] .

She died in 1968. She was buried at the Vienna-Simmering Evangelical Cemetery next to her husband, a physician Albert Wiedmann ( German: Albert Wiedmann ).
