Seromanians

About the creation of this unit, a hundred No. 1 “Seromants” was given an order read out on Mount Black Sigla - the first post of a hundred of the Carpathian Territory. 25 people, of whom a hundred began to form, were foremen and sub-officers who had undergone appropriate military training and had been in battles.

In August 1943, the entire hundred were on Mount Magura , where they underwent military training. By that time, the commanders of the “Seromants” were: centurion Karpenko Dmitry - “Hawk”, foreman “Kotz”, chief of staff “Dzhulik”, club “Raven”, bunker “Red”, hundreds of platoons “Lionsky” and “Perch”.

In October 1943, a hundred "Seromants" were sent to the northwestern territories of Galicia to fight the Polish troops of the occupying forces of the Reich. The first battle with the Germans took place in the autumn of 1943 near the village of Bolekhov .

For wintering for a couple of months in 1943-44, a hundred stopped in the Rogatinshchyna, not far from the villages of Dichok, Yaglush, Melny and Vysp. The camp is located on a treeless forest, which was called the Golden Glade. In the second half of September 1944, according to the decree of the UPA leadership, a hundred “Seromants” were reformed into a kuren under the name “Verkhovyntsi” (soon the former name was returned to the kuren), and a hundred “Hawk” took the new pseudonym “Fierce”. He became a smoker, and hundreds of “Seromanians”, “ Burlaki ”, and “ Poltava residents ” entered the chicken .

The chief of staff "Dzhulik" received the pseudonym "Zenik", and the smokers "Verkhovintsev" became part of the military district "Lysonya" . At that time, the “Fierce” smoker in the Stratinsky Forest met with the “Rizun” smoker - Vasily Andrusyak.

Then in the early spring there was a campaign, another battle with the Germans in the area of ​​the town of Novye Strelischi . The Seromans crossed the next passage to Radekhovschina, Sokalshchina, then to Belz, Ravshchina and other villages bordering the Curzon line . In these places, the well-known commanders of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army kuren met “Hawk” and “ Em ”. This friendship soon manifested itself in joint battles with the Germans. ^[2]

At the end of September 1944, a battle was fought against Soviet troops at the Unevskaya Lavra monastery . On the part of the UPA, the battle was taken by the Seromantsy kuren and a hundred Kosa , the Communists used heavy weapons, including tanks and reconnaissance aircraft. In this battle, the Seromans repulsed 22 brigade attacks, because each time the attack of the advancing Bolsheviks choked and the Bolsheviks fled as rebel machine guns opened fire. After a two-day battle (September 30 - October 1), the UPA’s hen retreated. Losses of Ukrainians amounted to 17 killed and 25 wounded. ^{[3] [4]}

All were hungry and exhausted by the daytime battle. There was also a lack of ammunition. In the forest there was such darkness that happens on cloudy autumn nights, and military units are still in their daytime positions. And then, finally, the long-awaited order: "Quietly leave the position, keep in touch between the units and leave the ravine to the right." Walking quietly in the dark forest, of course, we were taught the circumstances of life, but to go a hundred and in front of the enemy’s nose is not an easy task.

I axis, on the spot, re-scribbling the mandate: “Silently deprive the camps, trim the sounds between the two and go right-handed.” Walking quietly in a dark foxy, we, at the sound of it, began to surround us with life, but to walk a hundred with one in front of the raven’s nose is not easy on the right.

The battle near the village of Unev is mentioned in the 1945 Christmas greetings of the UPA Commander-in-Chief Roman Shukhevych ^[5] .

On April 28, 1945, the chicken was divided into companies and in this composition stayed all summer, and subsequently disbanded.

On March 28, 1952, the Seromantsy hen was restored in New York with the support of the Plast scout organization. In March 1997, the organization appeared in Ukraine. In 2007, the emblem of Kuren was adopted - the silhouette of a wolf on the background of the moon in a black triangle with a red-yellow frame - and the banner, which is a red panel with the emblem in the center. In 2013, the youth military-patriotic camp “Wolf School” was opened in Ukraine, past which became full members of the kuren. The official modern name is the 29th kuren of USP and UPS “The Great Seromants Tribe named after Andrei Garasevich . " ^[6]

Like some other units of the UPA, a hundred "Seromants" had their own march, which today is the anthem of reservoir smoking. Currently, the third verse of the song is not performed ^{[7] [8]} .
