CONCACAF Champions League 2016/17 - 9th CONCACAF Champions League draw, all in all - the 54th draw of the main club football tournament held by CONCACAF , the football body of North America , Central America and the Caribbean . The current winner of theMexican club " America ". The winner of the 2016/17 CONCACAF Champions League represented the region in the 2017 FIFA Club World Cup .
24 teams from North, Central America and the Caribbean took part in the 2016/17 CONCAF Champions League. 9 teams represent North America, 12 - Central America and 3 - Caribbean. Teams could be disqualified and replaced by a team from another country, if the club does not have an available stadium that meets CONCACAF safety requirements. If the club stadium does not meet the requirements list, the club may use another suitable stadium in its own country. However, if it is still determined that the club is not able to provide adequate facilities, it risks losing its place in the tournament and being replaced.
North America
The North American Football Union has delegated 9 teams to the Champions League. Mexico and the United States were allocated four places (the most among countries from CONCACAF), while Canada was allocated one.
From Mexico, the winners of the Aperture and Clausura and the finalists of these tournaments participate in the group stage (place in basket 3 at the group stage draw).
For the United States, three of the four places were determined in the regular season and the MLS playoffs, while the fourth position went to the US Open Cup . All teams from the United States got to the basket in the draw.
The only ticket from Canada to basket 2 in the 2016/17 season was received by the champion of this country in 2015.
Central America
From the Central American Football Union in the Champions League involved 12 teams. If one or more clubs are excluded, then it is replaced by another club from Central America. Substitution is based on results in previous Champions League draws.
Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama and El Salvador got 2 places in the Champions League, Nicaragua and Belize one by one. The countries that have received two passes to the Champions League are represented by the winners of Aperture and Klausura or the teams that took second place if both tournaments in the country were won by the same club. Tours from Nicaragua and Belize were awarded by the champions of these countries on the basis of both tournaments. Clubs from Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras and the winner of the Panama Aperture when the draw came in basket 2, teams from Belize, Nicaragua, El Salvador and the winner of Panama Clausura - in the basket 1.
