History
Initially, five monuments to the participants of the Great Patriotic War and the Civil War were located in the central part of the village of Kagalnitskaya on Budyonnovsky Lane. In April 1984, by order of the CPSU District Committee, the Executive Committee of the Kagalnitsky District Council of People’s Deputies decided to transfer to the common grave of the memorial complex the remains of Civil War participants and soldiers who died in 1943 during the liberation of the village of Kagalnitskaya.
The opening of the monument was preceded by large-scale work. Search groups visited all villages where there were monuments, studied their history. In military registration and enlistment offices and archives they searched for data on the participants in the war of the Kagalnitsky district. Based on the results of the search work, the “Book of Memory” was compiled, where so far the names of the fallen participants of the Great Patriotic War from the Kagalnitsky region are recorded.
Workers of the Rostov Regional Art Fund, sculptors - Mukha S. M. and Dementiev A. A., architect - Zhukov I. A., took a little less than two years to erect the monument. In 1986, on the 41st anniversary of the Victory, the ashes of soldiers from mass graves were moved to the district center, and the grand opening of this monument took place. The right to open the complex was given to the veteran of war and labor, the head of the district council of veterans Y. G. Zhibtsov. Accompanied by mourning music, urns were placed in the grave, fireworks were fired, and the USSR Anthem was sounded. The right to light the Eternal Flame from the Eternal Flame of the Kirovskaya village memorial was given to the head of the regional branch of the Soviet Peace Fund F. V. Bashlaev.
