Sam Bennett ( born October 16, 1990 in Wervick , Belgium ) is an Irish professional road racing cyclist who plays for the Bora – Hansgrohe team. Champion of Ireland 2019 in the group race. Winner of three stages at the Giro d'Italia 2018 .

Career
Born in the Belgian city of Vervik , where his father played for the local football club Eendracht Wervik . At the age of four, he moved with his parents to his native Ireland , where he spent his childhood in Carrick-on-Chur - the hometown of the famous Irish cyclist Sean Kelly [1] [2] .
In September 2013, on the Tour of Britain, he won the fifth stage, ahead of rivals in the sprint from the group with 15 riders. At the 2nd and 8th stages, the Irishman became the second.
In April 2015, he fell into a massive blockage at Scheldreis . In July, he started for the first time on a grand tour - Tour de France , but did not reach Paris, having left at the 17th stage [3] .
In July 2016, he again took part in the Big Loop , but “marked” only by receiving the lantern rouge , taking the last place in the final general classification, losing to the race winner Chris Frum for more than 5 hours.
On March 7, 2017, he won his first career Victoria at the UCI World Tour , winning stage 3 at Paris - Nice . In the mass sprint, he was ahead of a number of famous sprinters: Alexander Kristoff , John Degenkolba , Marcel Kittel and others [4] .
In October, Bennett marked a victory in four stages of the Tour of Turkey . At the last 6th stage of the race, he fell 300 meters to the finish line and missed the victory in the points classification of the race [5] .
