Type 64 (gun)

The Type 64 pistol with an integrated silencer was developed in the early 1960s as a low-noise weapon for the PLA special forces (it was also supplied to the partisans of the NLFU during the Vietnam War ). [1] This model is self-loading. The pistol uses specially designed 7.65x17 cartridges with a sleeve without a protruding rim. These cartridges are also referred to as Type 64. No other cartridges are suitable for this gun [1] .

Design

The effect of reducing the sound level of the shot is achieved due to the built-in expansion muffler in the front of the frame . This fixture of considerable size protrudes far beyond the muzzle end. Powder gases leave the bore , expand and cool inside a cylinder made of wire mesh. The cylinder itself is located inside a volumetric metal casing. A bullet passes through a series of rubber disks that trap powder gases.

To achieve the greatest noiselessness, the protrusions of the sliding rotary shutter placed in the casing should enter the grooves on the receiver, the shot is fired when the shutter is “muffled”. Unlocking the bore and removing the sleeve after firing is done manually. When translating the selector lever to the right, the protrusions of the shutter do not enter the grooves on the receiver, and the gun acts as a self-loading based on the recoil of the free shutter. However, recharging is accompanied by significant noise. When firing single shots with manual reloading, the gun becomes almost silent, but the low initial velocity of the bullet to a large extent affects its lethal force.

Cartridge 7.65 × 17 mm Type 64

A special Type 64 cartridge was created for the pistol based on the 7.65 × 17 mm Browning cartridge (also known as .32 ACP ), and differs from the original one with a heavier bullet and a sleeve without a protruding rim. The mass of the Type 64 bullet is 4.8 grams, the initial speed is 240 m / s, the muzzle energy is 138 J, that is 2 times less than the 9x18 PM cartridge.

Specification

Due to the low power of the ammunition used and the coarse sights, the effective range of this gun does not exceed ten to fifteen meters. To reduce the sound of a shot, the gun is equipped with an integrated two-chamber silencer asymmetrical with respect to the axis of the barrel. From the inside, the muffler is filled with a roll of rolled up metal mesh, which serves to brake and cool powder gases. In front of the muffler, a rubber shutter is additionally located, which prevents the breakthrough of powder gases through an opening in its end face. To eliminate the noise created at the time of the shot by the moving parts of the gun, its shutter can be locked in the front position, thereby turning the gun into a non-self-loading. The shutter is locked using a transversely movable button located in the shutter and protruding in the recesses on the sides of the shutter to the right or left. When you press the button from left to right, the shutter is locked with the help of a rotary larva, visually resembling a reduced shutter of the Kalashnikov assault rifle, when you press the button from right to left, the shutter is unlocked and the gun turns into a regular self-loading weapon with a free shutter. A manual fuse is located on the left side of the frame. Trigger trigger, single action (non-self-cocking). Sights are fixed, with the front sight located on the silencer body. Magazine box, single-row, with a capacity of 9 rounds.
