Tour de France 2017 ( French Tour de France 2017 ) - 104th race of the French Grand Tour , which took place in Germany , Belgium , Luxembourg and France . The grand start ( Grand Depart ) took place on July 1, 2017 in Dusseldorf , and the race finished on July 23 at the Champs Elysees in Paris .

This is the fourth Tour launched in Germany. Before that were Cologne in 1965 , Frankfurt in 1980 and West Berlin in 1987 .

Germany has shown a renewed interest in cycling. Indeed, after several cases of doping, the German media lost interest in cycling, including by stopping the television broadcast of the Tour de France for several years [1] .

It should be noted that initially the Grand Depart was supposed to take place in London , but the city appeared a few months before the announcement of the official announcement [2] [3] .

For the first time, the event was broadcast in full on French television [4] .

During the 21 stages, a total of riders had to travel 3529 kilometers. Two days of rest are planned: July 10 and 17. In the penultimate stage, there will also be an individual race [5] [6] .

Description

Grand Depart in Germany 30 Years After Berlin

For this fourth Grand Depart, the city of Dusseldorf was chosen. It is located just 200 km from Utrecht , where the 2015 Tour started.

Like any Grand Depart, the first stage of which takes place within the city limits, it gives a chance to win a yellow shirt to specialists of a separate start at a distance of 13 km. The tour will stay in Germany only a day and a half. Starting from the second stage, also starting in Düsseldorf, it will head west to finish in Belgium .

First week: Ardenes, Vosgeso and Jura

The stage will finish in Belgian Liege with a sprint finish. The third stage will pass through four countries: Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg and will finish in France in Longwy , favorable for gregars with its crossed profile. The next stage will begin in Luxembourg from Mondorf-les-Bains to finish in another resort town of Vittel, whose mineral water of the same name “Vittel” is a partner of the Tour de France.

This same city will be the start of the “first step” in the struggle for a general classification, taking the direction to the Vosges , whose finish line is located on La Planche de Belle Fiy , which over the years has become one of the main places of the Tour. This will be the first stage with a mountain finish, the only difficulty of which will be the final climb to the resort. The stages of Vesoul - Troyes (6th) and Troyes - Nuits-Saint-Georges (7th), in the direction of the south of France, promise to become sprints.

On weekends there will be 100% Jura . Starting from the Dol - Stacion de Rouss stage with a gradual increase in difficulty and a pre-final climb to the top of Combe de Laisia-les-Molunes than in 2010. And finally on Sunday they will offer an atypical stage for the Tour between Nantua - Chambery . After passing the col de Bérentin pass, the peloton will encounter the three most difficult peaks in the Jura, having the highest difficulty category: the unique col de la Biche , the most difficult col du Grand Colombier and the returnee le Mont du Chat , who saw the duel of Pulidor and Merckx in 1974 .

Second week: Perigord, Pyrenees, and the Central Massif

The first day of rest will be held in Dordogne .

The race continues on Tuesday, July 11, Perigueux - Bergerac , but unlike in 2014 it will be a group stage. Eymet , who has not seen the Tour for five years, will be the beginning of the eleventh stage, finishing in Po . In Pirineih, riders will be offered a diptych . First, one of the longest stages, 214 km long, to the resort of Peyragud , crossing the passes Col des Ares , Col de Menté and Port de Balès , which marks 10 years from its appearance on Tours, to the intersection of Col De Peyresourde and the finish at the airport where more than 20 years The opening scene of the film was filmed Tomorrow Never Dies .

The second stage of this Iberian duo, on Friday July 14, will be the shortest stage of this Tour (not counting ITT) - only 100 km completely laid in the Ariege department. After the start in Saint-Girona, the program will have three passes col de Latrape , col d'Agnes and Mur de Péguère with a finish in Foix . The transit stage between Blagnac - Rodez will not contribute to the possible victory of the gregari as it was on the 2015 Tour .

Finally, at the end of the second week, the Central Massif , in which the mid-mountain stage will stretch with two new major climbs: de Naves d'Aubra and col de Peyra Taillade with a finish in Le Puy-en-Velay , who besides the finish line in the year of his debut on the Tour receives a day of rest and the start of the next stage.

Third week: from the Alps to the Mediterranean Sea to the Champs Elysees

After a day of rest, the peloton will overcome the flat stage with a sprint finish in the city of Roman-sur-Isère . Then they will storm the Alps in two stages, where they have to overcome a total of five passes. The first leg from La Mure will include the Col d'Ornon , Col de la Croix-de-Fer and Col du Galibier climbs for the first time since 2011 , finishing in the resort of Serre Chevalier . The second stage, in turn, will start with Briançon descent to Ser-Ponson , then climb the Vallée de l'Ubaye valley to climb Col de Vars and return north towards Arvieux with a finish at the top of Col d'Isoar . This route is also one of the amateur stages. This route is also one of the Etape Du Tour cycling event.

This will be followed by the final group stage through Provence between Ambrène and Salon de Provence , before the individual race with a separate start will take place in Marseille , the European sports capital of 2017. The start and finish of the stage will take place at the Velodrome stadium and the route will take place on the slopes leading to Notre Dame de la Garde . At the end of the penultimate stage, the Tour participants will have one of the largest “transfers” in their history - they will have to overcome almost 750 km in less than 24 hours.

The final stage, which will begin in Montgeron , the historic city for the Tour de France, where the first and centenary Tours started, will facilitate Paris's bid for the Olympic Games in 2024 passing through sports centers. He will also pass through the House of the Disabled and the Grand Palace , before entering the Champs Elysees for the final rounds . We also note that Marseille, where the penultimate stage will take place, is considered as the venue for sailing competitions at the Games .

For the first time in the last 25 years with the Tour de France 1992 , the race will go through five main hexagon mountain ranges: Vosges, Jura, Pyrenees, Central Massif and the Alps. In addition, for the third year in a row, the race will pass the Pyrenees before the Alps.
