Lasius nipponensis (lat.) - a species of ants from the genus Lasius (subfamily Formicinae ). Endemic of the Far East: Russia (Primorsky Territory), North Korea , South Korea , Taiwan , Japan . Black shiny ants living in wood. Length about 5 mm. It is close to Lasius capitatus and other species of the Dendrolasius subgenus, from which it differs by pubescence, tapering up a petiol scale and the presence of an occipital carina [2] [3] . The species was first described based on materials from Japan in 1912 by the Swiss worldmecologist Auguste Forel ( A. Forel ) as a variety under the original name Lasius fuliginosus var. nipponensis Forel, 1912 [1] . In 1941, it was first established in species status (Santschi, 1941) [4] , in 1955 it was synonymous with Lasius fuliginosus [5] , and in 2002 it was again restored to the status of a separate species [6] .
