History
Monuments to Anton Pavlovich Chekhov are installed on the territory of different cities: in Moscow , Taganrog , Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk , Krasnoyarsk , Tomsk and in some small settlements [2] . In the spring of 2010, the idea came up of creating a monument to Chekhov in Rostov-on-Don. To organize and implement this venture, a special commission was created and a competition was held [3] . According to its results, the project of a monument to the Rostov sculptor, Honored Artist of Russia Anatoly Sknarin was chosen . The author created the image of the writer based on archival photographs found [1] .
The location of the monument was not immediately determined. Several options were considered: the area near the house of the merchant Maximov at the intersection of Stanislavsky and Semashko streets, near the Book House on Budennovsky Prospekt and on Pushkinskaya near the Public Library. An option was also proposed for the location of the monument to the writer at the intersection of Pushkinskaya and Chekhov Streets - the commission finally decided on it. The opening of the monument took place on January 28, 2010 [1] . The height of the monument was 2.5 meters [4] .
