Axel Wilhelmsson Johannesen ( Farmers. Aksel Vilhelmsson Johannesen , Mostly Farmers . Aksel V. Johannesen ^[1] , born on November 8, 1972 , Klaksvüik ) - Faroese politician, Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands from September 15, 2015 , representative of the Social Democratic Party .

Johannesen was also a 100 meter champion of the islands in 1994 and played volleyball with the Mjölnir club. After completing his sports career, he graduated from the law faculty of the University of Copenhagen in 2004 , and after a short legal practice in Torshavn, he decided to take up politics.

According to the results of the 2015 elections , the Social Democrats shared the first place in terms of the number of mandates in lungging with the Respublika Left separatist party and created a coalition government along with it and the Progress centrist party (replacing the conservative coalition previously in power) which was headed by Johannesen.

In addition, in this election, Johannesen set a record for the number of votes cast for him as a deputy of the electorate (2,405 votes), breaking the record of his predecessor as prime minister of conservative Kai Leo Johannesen (who also played football in the past) 1967 votes.
