On April 4, in Cleveland, during the 2007 VNBA draft, Phoenix Mercury was chosen by point guard Lindsay Harding of Duke University , but on the same day she was exchanged for Tangela Smith in Minnesota Links . Under the second number at that draft, the San Antonio Silver Stars Club selected center Jessica Davenport from Ohio State University , which was also exchanged that same day for Becky Hammon at New York Liberty .

The season started on May 19 with last year’s finalists match between Detroit Shock and Sacramento Monarchs , in which Shock won with a score of 75:68. On July 15, the All-Star Match took place at the Veraison Center in Washington, DC , in which the Eastern Conference team replayed the Western Conference team with a score of 103: 99. The MVP of this match was recognized by the center “Detroit Shock” Cheryl Ford , which in 27 minutes spent on the floor, gathered a collection of 16 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists for the East team. That year’s regular season ended on August 19, with MVP recognized by Lauren Jackson of Seattle Storm . The San Antonio Silver Stars club mentor, Dan Hughes , was recognized as the coach of the year , and Arminti Price , third draft pick from Chicago Sky , was the rookie of the year . Officially, the 2007 season ended on September 16 , when the Phoenix Mercury outplayed the final game in a decisive game to three victories from last year's Detroit Shock winner, and Mercury quarterback Cappie Pondexter was recognized as the final MVP .
