Biography
Born on May 30 ( June 11 in a new style) in 1890 in the town of Bolkhov, Oryol Province, in the family of an employee.
In 1915 he graduated from Moscow University .
In March 1927, Velichkin was sent to the Urals by order of the RSFSR Narkomzdrav, before that he worked as the head of the Vladimir provincial health department. He was among the initiators of the opening of medical institutions in Sverdlovsk - occupational health and occupational diseases, balneology and physiotherapy, skin and venereal diseases, sanitary and hygienic. In the years 1931-1932 he was on a scientific mission in Berlin [2] .
In 1941-1947 he was the director of the Sverdlovsk Medical Institute and the first dean of the Faculty of Sanitation and Hygiene (since 1943). In 1939-1952 he was chairman of the Sverdlovsk branch of the All-Union Hygienic Society. In 1947 he defended his doctoral thesis on the topic “The state of health of the population of Sverdlovsk according to negotiability” [2] .
The main directions of the scientific work of V. I. Velichkin are the problems of social hygiene in the Urals. He was awarded the Order of Lenin and the "Badge of Honor", as well as medals. Winner of the Stalin Prize [3] .
