Biography

In 1926-1933, Grossman served as Secretary General of the German League for Human Rights and strongly opposed the upheld National Socialism. On February 28, 1933, Grossman fled from Germany to Prague, from there to Paris, and eventually to the United States. His surname was included in the first list of 33 Germans deprived of citizenship of the German Empire . In the USA, Grossman received American citizenship after the war.

Grossman had outstanding organizational talent. He played a leading role in organizations that helped to escape from Germany and helped many German emigrants in Prague, Paris and the USA, provided them with material support, although he himself was often in very cramped circumstances. After the war, Grossman worked at the World Jewish Congress , later at the Jewish Agency and the Jewish Council for Material Claims against Germany. At the same time, Grossman continued to work and collaborated with almost all emigrant publications.

After the war, Grossman worked for some time as a correspondent for the Forverts Social Democratic newspaper in the United States and wrote articles for many German left-liberal publications. Grossman has published about 8,500 articles and several books. His most famous work is the 1957 book Unsung Heroes about participants in the German Resistance .
