Biography
Born October 12, 1931 in Leningrad.
In 1954, he graduated from the Geological Faculty of Moscow State University , then he studied there in graduate school.
After graduating from graduate school, he joined the research department of the Faculty of Geology as a junior researcher.
In 1959, he defended his thesis, topic: “Lower Cretaceous deposits of the Northwest Caucasus and the Western Ciscaucasia and their oil and gas potential” (the dissertation examined the conditions for the formation of deposits in which large gas fields were discovered).
Since 1973 - head of the laboratory of natural reservoirs of oil and gas (later - oil lithology ) of the geological faculty of Moscow State University.
In 1975-1977 - Secretary of the Party Committee of Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov.
In 1977 - defended his doctoral dissertation, topic: "Oil formation in geosynclinal sedimentary formations of the Cenozoic in the Pacific belt."
In 1978 - awarded the academic title of professor of the Department of Geology and Geochemistry of Combustible Minerals of the Geological Faculty of Moscow State University.
He died on December 2, 2011 in Moscow.
Scientific and social activities
Research interests: the study of sedimentary oil and gas formations on the continental margins.
He published about 200 scientific papers devoted to the study of the patterns of distribution of oil and gas complexes in sedimentary basins, as well as 4 monographs and 4 study guides. Editor of a number of collections and methodological manuals.
The results are based on long-term field geological exploration in the Caucasus and the Far East, including Chukotka, Kamchatka, Sakhalin, and geological excursions to other areas of the Western Pacific belt, including Japan, New Zealand. Oil and gas bearing basins, such as Anadyrsky and Khatyrsky, have been identified, investigated and characterized.
He participated in the compilation of exploration programs for these pools, the result of which was the discovery of 4 oil and gas fields. The generalization of a large volume of material made it possible to establish a connection between oil and gas formation and the staged nature of the processes of transformation of active margins.
He showed a fundamental difference in oil formation on active and passive margins, and also that the increased contrast of tectogenesis of active margins determines a sharp differentiation of lithogenesis conditions and, accordingly, oil formation and oil accumulation. A differentiated approach to formations of various types increases the reliability of oil and gas forecasts. As a result of the research, new oil and gas complexes were identified and the conditions for their productivity were established, including in the Far East.
He singled out a new object - syngenetic-oil-bearing tuffite-siliceous formations, which was confirmed by the discovery of deposits in siliceous strata both in the USSR and abroad.
He developed and taught courses “Lithology and oil and gas complexes”, “Natural reservoirs of oil and gas”, “Methods of offshore oil and gas research”.
Member of the Bureau of the Interdepartmental Lithological Committee of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Chairman of the Section of Lithology of Oil and Gas Formations, Expert of the Higher Attestation Commission of the USSR (1978-1981), Member of the Geological Section of the Expert Council of Mingeo of the RSFSR (1977-1986), Council of the Geological Faculty of Moscow State University (1964-1986), Council of Moscow University ( 1968-1978), council of the geology department of the geological faculty of Moscow State University, council for the defense of dissertations in the field of geology, prospecting and exploration of oil and gas, solid fossil fuels and lithology, council of the Geological Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences, council of the Institute of Geol gies and the development of fossil fuels and the Ministry of Oil Industry of the USSR.
Under his leadership, 18 candidate and 2 doctoral dissertations were defended.
