About the album
It was noted that since the group already had a contract with Atlantic Records , the album was released with the name of the group in the mirror image - “IVIVM” (this led to sources such as Rate Your Music attributing the album to the artist Snivlem [2] ). In fact, Melvins did it only because they wanted to.
The album demonstrates a distinctly experimental quality, with disparate elements, including field recordings , electronic effects and loops , jam sessions , a stereotypical drum solo, turning into an archetypical heavy metal guitar solo, and a track that is presented as “pure digital silence” - after followed by silence for one minute. Musician Buzz Osborne said that Prick is “a crappy noisy record that we did exclusively for the effect of strangeness. Complete nonsense and total joke. " [3]
The band members claimed that they wanted to name the album Kurt Kobain , but changed the name after Cobain's death to eliminate the possibility that people would see the album as a tribute. They implied that Cobain was actually the title “asshole” because he died and forced to change the name of the album. [four]
