The authors deliberately excluded silent films from their field of view, since they considered them to be a “ separate and unique kind of art, and what to evaluate them on a par with a sound movie is like weighing apples and oranges together .” When compiling the book, the authors selected the most egregious examples to show the most disrespectful genres like blaxploitation (for example, the film “ Woe-Man ”). In addition, the selection is limited only to those foreign films that were sold in the United States, as the authors considered it unfair to consider only American films, although they took into account that it is extremely difficult to make a selection from the entire world cinema for its entire existence, as well as what readers they are unlikely to ever come across such films themselves.
And although most of the list is low-budget sci-fi film production, the book also found a place for mainstream films that were released for wide distribution: “ Airport 1975 ”, “ Last Year in Marienbad ”, “ Great Alakadzam ”, “ Weekends in California ” , “ Howard the Duck ,” “ Ishtar ,” “ Myra Breckinridge, "," Finally, love "," Omen "," The Lost Horizon "," Hurry up the sunset "," Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia "," Richard the Lionheart "," Say only one thing for me "," Solomon and the Queen of Sheba . "
Later, the Medved brothers continued the theme of the worst films in the books Awarded the Golden Turkey , which again presented bad and low-quality films, and the Hollywood Hall of Shame , which examined in detail examples of several financial failures in the cinema , as well as focused on two things: acting and movie editing features.

American film historian, associate professor, and Acting Head of the Department of Fine and Media Arts at Emerson College Eric Schaefer in 1999 he wrote: [1]
The cult of the “bad film” became clearly evident with the publication of two books - “Fifty Worst Films of All Time” (1978) and “ Awarded the Golden Turkey” (1981), but its roots can be traced back to 1962. Then the 33-year-old monster movie lover and aspiring director Joe Dante published Russian in the Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine (No. 18, p. 14-23) article “Dante's Hell” with a list of “ Fifty Worst Horror Films of All Time and People ”.
James English, an American literary critic and film critic, professor and head of the Department of English at the University of Pennsylvania, in 2008, in his monograph “The Economy of Prestige: Prizes, Awards, and the Circulation of Cultural Property,” noted that the book marked the beginning of the awards awarded for “worst films,” whose number " Almost equal to the usual awards ."
