Biography
Born on February 28 (March 13), 1911 in Mariupol (now Donetsk Oblast , Ukraine ) on Yekaterininsky Street (now Lenin Avenue) in house No. 33 in the family of a lawyer. Father played the violin, mother played the piano, and Sergey sang. Since 1932 he lived in Leningrad [1] .
In 1935 he graduated from the L. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Moscow State Academic Theater (singing class A. N. Ulyanov ).
Since 1935 he was a leading soloist of the Leningrad Maly Opera and Ballet Theater (now the Mikhailovsky Theater ), in which he served for more than 40 years.
Conducted a great concert activity, performed romances and songs by P.I. Tchaikovsky, A. Dvorzhak, A.A. Alyabyev , A. Arensky, M.A. Balakirev , M.I. Glinka, A.S. Dargomyzhsky, S. V Rachmaninov , N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov, vocal cycles: “Far Youth” by Yu. A. Shaporin, “The Winter Way” by F. Schubert, “Ten Shakespeare Sonnets” by D. B. Kabalevsky, “12 Persian Songs” A. G. Rubinstein, “Six Romances on the verses of A. S. Pushkin ” by G. V. Sviridov, “Five Romances on the words of E. A. Dolmatovsky” D. D. Shostakovich , “Love of the poet” R. Schumann, “Russian man” and "Words of love" V. N. Voloshinova , cantata "Song of Labor and Peace" V. P. Chistyakova , Russian folk songs. Has toured abroad ( Bulgaria , East Germany , Iceland , Sweden ).
Since 1947, he taught singing at the Leningrad State University named after N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov (since 1958, an assistant professor).
He died on July 11, 1973 . He was buried in Leningrad at the Serafimovsky cemetery .
Awards and Prizes
- Stalin Prize of the second degree (1951) - for the performance of Oleg Koshevoy in the opera performance "Young Guard" by Yu. S. Matus
- Honored Artist of the RSFSR (28.6.1951) [2] .
- People's Artist of the RSFSR (1957).
