Description

The length of the avenue is 3200 m. In the historical part of the city (between Severnaya Street and Yermak Square ) it crosses Zapadenskaya Balka, Kirpichnaya, Mikhailovskaya, Bogdan Khmelnitsky, Ordzhonikidze, Pushkinskaya, Moskovskaya and Atamanskaya streets , then five more streets. On the section between Ermak Square and Ordzhonikidze Street in the middle of the four-lane carriageway (two in each direction) there is an alley 15 m wide, for the rest of the length of the movement of vehicles is carried out in two lanes. In different parts of the avenue buses and taxis run 23 routes [1] .

The construction of the avenue was carried out on both sides of Yermak Square. Visibly the avenue is divided into three parts that are close in length, but different in terms of architectural and spatial organization. The first is laid along the north-eastern slope of the Biryuchekut Upland: a narrow, smoothly going down, roadway is framed by wide dirt strips with three to four rows of trees, built up mainly with one, one and a half, and two-story houses. The time of their construction, as well as the architectural appearance, vary. There are both solid old mansions gravitating to a certain style or with an exemplary main facade, as well as wooden houses - post-war smoking houses. The second part is almost horizontal with a boulevard, here are the oldest buildings in the first half of the 19th century in Novocherkassk and houses of Stalinist architecture of the 1950s. The third part with a noticeable slope, turning into a steep descent to Zapadenskaya beam, where the avenue ends [2] .

General proportions, strict symmetry of the main facade, as well as the design of the first floor, correspond to the canons of classicism . In solving the second and third floors, elements of ancient Russian architecture were widely used, such as the frames of arched window openings, graceful stylized columns with carved capitals and rows of kokoshniks — shells on the attics that complete the lateral and central risalits [3] .
