The song received positive reviews from music critics. She reached number three on the US chart and fourth in the United Kingdom . With sales of over six million copies, the song is one of the singer’s most successful and best-selling singles in her career. Tyler reprinted the song several times, the version of the bilingual duet with French singer Karin Antonn in 2004 was especially successful.

History
The distinctive sand in Bonnie Tyler’s voice appeared in this song after her vocal cord surgery in 1976. Then she needed an operation, since performances at nightclubs in her native Wales led to nodules in her vocal cords. It is to this sand in the voice that the success of this song and, as a whole, the subsequent very successful career of the singer are attributed [2] .
The song was written by the singer’s managers Ronnie Scott and Steve Wolfe [2] . Then in the 70s they were the authors of most of the songs on her albums.
In the original performance of Tyler, the song was released as a separate single in November 1977. The song reached the 1st place in Canada, France, Sweden, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, in the USA it was in 3rd place, and in Great Britain in 4th [2] .
Then the song was sung by other artists, but not so successfully. Juice Newton in 1978 got her version to 86th place in the USA, and Ronnie Spector (a former member of Ronettes , a popular girl group of the 1960s) recorded the song at about the same time, but did not mark it on the charts [2] .
