History
According to the plan of the city of Novocherkassk, compiled in 1906 by the chief architect of the city, V.N. Kulikov, the line of urban buildings ended where the modern even side of Pervomayskaya Street and 26 Baku Commissars Street is located. Here was the end of Baklansky Avenue , and at a short distance was the beginning of the Krasnokutskaya grove. The northern border of this grove passed through the territory in which the Cosmos cinema is now located. This was the situation until the 1950s.
When leaving the city, the building was built and commissioned in 1955. It turned out to be a four-story student dormitory of the Institute of Land Reclamation in the architectural style of the Soviet pseudo-classic. Subsequently, the style of this building was used as a basis for the further formation of the basis of the future square.
In 1967, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution, it was called "Jubilee." A wide-screen cinema “Iskra” and the hotel “Novocherkassk” were placed on the new square, a monument to the cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin was erected - V. Dolmatov became the sculptor. In connection with the appearance of the monument, the cinema was also renamed, it began to be called not “Iskra”, but “Cosmos”.
In 1988, a 14-storey building was commissioned here on the corner of Baklanovsky Avenue and Pervomayskaya Street . In 2003, a monument to ataman MI Platov was to be erected on Yubileinaya Square among a large flower garden. The created model of the monument performed by the sculptor Isakov has already been approved. The place prepared for the placement of the monument was decorated with a stone with the text: “This stone indicates the place where the monument was erected to the Don Ataman Graf M.I. Platov. Laid down on May 4, 2003, by the Cossacks of the East Kazakhstan region, the Great Don Army . ” However, for some reason, in the end, another monument was created to be installed on Platovskiy Avenue Boulevard near the Ascension Cathedral [1] .
Jubilee Square serves as a junction. It is crossed by the highway, which is carried out around the clock, there are tram tracks. In November 2013, anti-vandal sculptures - horses were installed on the square [2] .
