History

At the beginning of the 19th century, the main institutions of the Don Cossacks were located on Pavlova Square. In this place for 15 years was the administrative center of New Cherkassk. The square at that time was called Parade. And in 1895, the documents were listed as Institutskaya Square. It received its new name due to the fact that from the middle of the XIX century Donskoy Mariinsky Women's Institute was located in this place. After the institute was transferred to another building, the square was renamed again and was named after the ataman of the Don Cossack NI Svyatopolk-Mirsky . In 1910 a church in the name of Seraphim of Sarov was built on the territory of the square, which was later destroyed in the 1930s. At the same time, the square was renamed again and became known as the Lassalle Square [2] - in honor of the German socialist Ferdinand Lassalle . In 1963, the square received a new name and became the Pavlov Square - under this name it is also known to residents of the 21st century. Georgy Pavlov was a war hero, in September 1942, he and Timofey Vasilyevich Kolyvanov blew up a wagon with German ammunition, as a result of which traffic on the railway was suspended. Because of this, he was killed [1] . Georgy Pavlov was posthumously awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd degree [3] .

Architectural Ensemble

A variety of architectural styles is concentrated on Pavlov Square. On the south side there is a two-story building of the hospital of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, on the east side - the architecture of the 1950s-1960s. On the western and eastern side of the square there are two-storey and one-storey residential houses built in different years of the 20th century. Most of the area is reserved for the square, the territory of which is divided by 2 roads. One of them is a continuation of Shiroky Lane, the second cuts off the corner that is formed by Ermak Avenue and Trudovy Lane. On the western border of the square is the pavilion "Anis" [1] .
