Cihaner, Ilhan

In 2007, Cihaner was appointed chief prosecutor of Erzincan ^[7] . He was investigating the activities of the religious group Ismail-Aga , the reason for the start of the investigation was the reports that this religious group was spreading illegal courses of the Koran and prohibiting girls from attending educational institutions. The initial investigation did not produce results, but an investigation by the gendarmerie and national intelligence revealed financial irregularities ^[8] . After that, Jihaner obtained permission for wiretapping telephone conversations of people associated with Ismail-Aga. The list of these people included a number of ministers and the then Prime Minister Recep Erdogan ^{[9] [10]} . Listening was carried out in 2007-2009. In February 2009, nine suspects were arrested at the direction of Jihaner, and after their interrogation a list of potential suspects was made, including 235 people. This list includes a number of ministers, as well as the mayor of Istanbul, Kadir Topbash . After that, Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Chichek personally called Cihaneru and demanded to stop the investigation, Cihaner refused ^[8] . A few months later, an investigation into the activities of Ismail-Aga was transferred to another prosecutor ^[8] .

In February 2010, Ilhan Jihaner was arrested on charges of being a member of the Ergenekon organization, allegedly preparing a coup d'état in Turkey ^{[8] [11] [12]} . In August 2010, Cihaner was released ^{[13] [14] [15]} . In November of the same year, he occupied the post of prosecutor in Adana ^{[16] [17]} .

In 2011, Cihaner was elected to the parliament from the Republican People’s Party ^[18] .
