Biography
Ranulfo Miranda played in the 1940s for Guarani, was the team's top scorer. In 1949, Guarani helped to win the fifth Paraguayan title, with the previous Indians winning the championship in 1923. Subsequently, Miranda played in Colombia for “America” and “Onse Caldas” [1] .
In 1947, Miranda won the silver medal of the South American Championship in Ecuador . He played in four of the seven matches of the Paraguayan national team in the tournament - he played in the starting lineup against Uruguay (victory 4: 2) and Colombia (2: 0), and also came on as a substitute in fights with Peru (2: 2) and Bolivia (3 : 1) [2] .
At the end of his career, he began to work as a coach. He worked at home with such teams as Guarani, Cerro Porteno, Nacional, Rubio New [3] . In 1979, he led the national team of Paraguay, which led to the victory in the America's Cup. This tournament had an unusual format - during the year the teams held group stage matches without a specific host country, and then they determined the champion according to the “playoffs” scheme - a format commonly used in club continental tournaments. Due to the fact that in the same season the Asuncion “ Olympia ” won the Libertadores Cup and the Intercontinental Cup for the first time in their history, Miranda had to vary greatly depending on the load of the “Olympians” - 32 football players took part in nine matches [1] . In the first final game at Defensores del Chaco , the Paraguayans defeated the Chilean national team 3-0. In the return game, the Chileans took revenge 1-0, but the teams under the regulations had to hold the third game in Buenos Aires . Before the decisive match, the coach had to solve a new problem - one of the midfielder leaders Hugo Talavera was not let out by the Olympia in the national team, and Romerito played in his position [1] . The match ended 0-0 in extra time, and as a result, Paraguay was recognized as the champion due to the best goal difference in the final standoff [4] .
Miranda left the team in 1980. In 1983-1985, he again led the national team. He also coached foreign teams - the Guatemalan “Communicasiones”, the Salvadoran “Alliance”, the Bolivian “Jorge Wilstermann”, the Colombian “Deportivo Pereira”, as well as the Ecuadorian LDU Quito, “Olmedo” and “Macaru” [3] . In 1996-1998, he worked in the coaching staff of the Paraguayan national team, led by Brazilian Paulo Cesar Carpezhiani [5] .
