History
In 1957, the honorary title "People's writer of the Mari ASSR" was established in the republic. The first of this title was awarded to N. Lekayn [1] .

The titles “People's Writer of the Republic of Mari El” and “ People's Poet of the Republic of Mari El ” are given to writers, poets, playwrights, prose writers, literary critics, who created particularly valuable works of art that have received wide public recognition [2] .
